Even Oracle's database conventions say plural table names. If that's Microsoft's stance, I want to go the direction where we will be in 20 years. It seems like its going in the direction of plural table names especially since all the system tables in SQL Server are all plural, and the default for Entity Framework is plural out of the box. Also consider which direction the tide is going. If it all comes down to preference, I will go with the consistency and pluralize. If the table is just a container of rows, isn't it more logical to use plural naming? You would never name a collection in code singular, then why would you name the table singular?
